Club Room
Our clubroom is an ex Victorian Railways VVDY guardsvan which was purchased by the club in 1986 and transported by road to the club grounds. We have removed some of the partition walls to give a larger space for club meetings and gatherings and allow for more storage.
Our club storage is in an Ex Victorian Railways 4 wheel B Van purchased in 2007.
Unloading
Locomotive loading and unloading is available with our hydraulic traverser. It is capable of lifting locomotives up to 12 feet in length, up to a maximum of 750kg and allows mutliple vehicles to be aligned so to allow members to load and unload simultaneously.
Steaming Up
The
turntable currently has 5 steaming up bays with more planned to be added
in the future. Two tracks provide access from the turntable to the
main line and Wandong Yard. Another 2 tracks provide a connection
to the traverser.
A roundhouse has been constructed over 3 roads to protect us from the
elements during the wetter running days.
Yards
The
main Wandong yard consists of 6 tracks which have access from both ends
and allows locomotives to run around their trains. Access to the steaming-up
bay turntable is available by the 2 run on roads up onto the embankment.
2 and 3 roads have access to water stands and allow trains to pull off
the mainline and prevent the through trains from being delayed.
Mesa yard is currently only a passing loop with a small goods shed and water tower. More is planned for Mesa yard in the future as funds and time permits.
Water
Water stands are provided around the track, in Wandong yard and at Mesa yard. We do not have mains water on site so all of our water is caught using the rooves of our buildings and stored in tanks.
Point Levers and Point Indicators
A
Victorian Railways style point indicator was installed on the main line
through Wandong yard as a trial. It has so far been quite successfull
and hopefully a few more will be installed in the future. They make
reading the points a lot easier for when those high speed run throughs
are required.
The point levers at Wandong Live Steamers are based on a Victorian Railways
FORD lever.
